| A look at the budget grinders carried by EspressoPeople. |
 |
Although there are many grinders on the market today, EspressoPeople has been very careful to only offer what we believe are the best models for the money. The grinders listed in each of our major categories, including this one offer very good performance and reliability, vis a vis with their price. As with most things in life, you get what you pay for, and our goal is to make sure you get everything possible at your budget point.
EspressoPeople carries great grinders in the under $80 range. The Capresso Burr Grinder Select - Model #555 is similar to the Capresso #551 but it features a very unique "coffee bean dosing hopper" that allows you to select the amount of beans you wish to grind. Each turn and "click" of the bean hopper will dispense enough beans to make two cups of brewed coffee. To obtain enough beans for ten cups of coffee, you simply turn the hopper so it clicks five times. The dosing hopper may also be removed, allowing the grinder to be filled just like the model #551.
All three grinders have a timing or sensing mechanism to determine when to shut the respective units off. The la Pavoni PA and Capresso #551 both have a timer that can be adjusted to run the grinder for a certain time then they automatically shut off. The timer dial shows settings between two and ten average brewed cups' volume of grind. The Capresso #551 features a more advanced timer system that senses when all the beans in your predetermined dose has been ground, and will automatically turn off.
EspressoPeople recommends the la Pavoni PA Burr Grinder and both Capresso grinders for press pot coffee, most drip coffee makers and percolator use. If your goal is a good grinder to match up with a demanding espresso machine, these grinders might not suit the purpose - they don't have the advanced teeth patterns or more delicate fineness controls of some of our more expensive grinders.
If you own an espresso machine with a crema enhancing or brew aiding device, including machines by Briel, Capresso, Krups, La Pavoni, Saeco, and Solis machines that EspressoPeople sells, these grinders will be suitable for the task if your budget is limited. Grinders in this below $80 price range also work well with most department store brands of espresso machines, including those by Krups, Delonghi, and even some of the Starbucks' branded espresso machines.
