(gah-jah)

Nearly 70 years ago, Achille Gaggia introduced the world to the first pump-driven espresso machine.  Today the Gaggia Classic stands as a timeless piece of kitchen equipment that coffee aficionados worldwide applaud everyday.

With its commercial style portafilter, brew group and three-way solenoid valve, the Gaggia Classic combines convenience and maximum productivity. Heat stability and retention are unmatched with the Gaggia Classic, thanks to the pound of chrome-plated marine brass that make up this commercial style portafilter.

The traditional appearance of the Gaggia Classic combined with its easy-to-use controls for brewing and steaming make this a must-have for any at-home barista.  The Gaggia Classic is a perfect fit in any upscale kitchen and will not be going out of style anytime soon.

Simple to Use Controls

The Classic Coffee features large pro-quality rocker-type switches that will last the lifetime of the machine. The first switch located on the left turns the machine on or off.  The integrated light indicates when the power is on. Push the coffee brew switch located on the far right to begin the brewing cycle and then turn the switch off when the desired amount of espresso has been dispensed. Push the steam switch in the middle to heat the boiler to steam temperature, and then turn the steam valve to release steam from the steam wand. A light indicates when the machine is at the correct operating temperature for either brewing espresso or the production of steam.

Turbo Milk Frothing Tip

Thanks to the power of the Gaggia's heating elements and boiler, the Classic's ability to produce massive amounts of steam has been well documented online. The frothing tip is actually a sleeve that slips onto the end of the steam wand.  It has an air induction hole that draws air into the sleeve while frothing milk. The air is injected into the milk to help produce foam quickly and easily. You may also remove the sleeve if you wish to heat the milk without producing as much foam. The steam wand is made of stainless steel and swivels to accommodate a 12 or 20 oz. milk-frothing pitcher.  To release steam from the machine, simply turn the steam control knob on the right side of the machine.

Instant Hot Water Dispensing

The Classic delivers instant hot water just by turning the steam knob during normal standby (brewing) mode and activating the brew switch. Hot water will be dispensed from the steam wand. Use hot water for making tea, Americanos, or other hot beverages.

High Performance Boiler

The Gaggia Classic features a boiler equipped with a 1425 watt heating element - the most powerful in its class. This kind of raw power gives the machine a very quick warm up time and equally quick recovery times. It also provides ample and powerful steam for frothing milk.

Brass Brewing Components

The Classic has all of its main brewing components made out of marine grade brass, including the grouphead, group lines, and portafilter. Heat retention and stability is well maintained, resulting in superior espresso shot performance.

Three Way Solenoid Valve

Common on commercial machines, but extremely rare on consumer machines, the Classic's 3 way valve immediately releases pressure buildup from the grouphead and portafilter once you complete your shot, and reduces the water pressure on the coffee grounds.  This produces dryer coffee grounds and makes it easier to discard the used espresso grounds (espresso puck) from the portafilter.

Powerful Pump System

The Classic's self-priming vibratory pump is capable of up to 17.5 BAR of pressure, more than enough pressure to make excellent espresso topped with thick crema. The Classic Coffee has the most powerful pump among the Gaggia machines.

Safety System

The boiler heating element features a thermal fuse that provides burnout protection if the boiler is operated dry or runs out of water.

Included Accessories

The Classic comes with two stainless steel filter baskets for making either single or double shots of espresso, a coffee tamper, 7 gram measuring spoon and instruction manual.

Marc Oct 5, 2004 I've had a Gaggia Classic for 10 years.  It works flawlessly.  It's a little finicky for the grind and tamp but all of the top machines are, to give flexibility to the barista.  Excellent power, temperature control and once you have the hang of it the Gaggia will make a perfect shot.  I suggest taking off the special milk frothing tube.  It actually makes better foam without it.

This is certainly the best machine for the money.  The Rancilio Silvia is about the same performance for $100 more.
